According to research conducted by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the aid that was delivered to people in the United States as part of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan helped reduce child poverty in the country by more than 40%.

This is why many continue to advocate for the enhancements to the Child Tax Credit to be made permanent. However, this idea has been met with resistance from Republicans and even some Democrats. Senator Joe Manchin, has been pushing back against the White House’s Build Back Better plan, according to The Sun.

Sen. Manchin says the aid is too costly

For Manchin, the main concern is public spending and the impact on the country’s inflation that he claims permanent credits could generate. “The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office determined that the cost exceeds $4.5 trillion, which is more than double what the bill’s ardent supporters claim,” he noted in a release.

«They continue to camouflage the real cost of the intent behind this bill,» Manchin said. After long months of discussions, everything seems to indicate that the enhanced Child Tax Credit will not be extended, so the state aid will be a great relief for a lot of people.
