  • Elizabeth Barraza was murdered three years ago and authorities are asking for help to solve the crime.
  • Barraza, 29, was shot to death in her garage right after her husband left for work.
  • The killer arrived in a Nissan van, disguised in a wig and a long bathrobe.

Elizabeth Barraza was shot to death on January 25, 2019 at her home in Tomball, Texas, and her murder remains unsolved. Three years after the attack on Barraza, the non-profit organization Crime Stoppers of Houston is offering a reward of $50,000 to whoever has information that allows authorities to find her murderer.

Elizabeth Barraza’s family held a press conference at the headquarters of Crime Stoppers of Houston to plead for someone to come forward with information about the woman’s killer. Liz, as she was called, was murdered when she was preparing to hold a garage sale at her home.

Officers from the Homicide Division of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) also went to the headquarters of Crime Stoppers of Houston on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 to offer the few details that are known about the murder of Elizabeth Barraza.

Bob Nuelle, Elizabeth Barraza’s father, said at the press conference that his family will not give up until justice is served. “Here we continue, three years later, we are still committed to fighting for justice. We will never give up,» said the girl’s father on the verge of tears.

According to the HCSO Homicide Division investigation, on Friday, January 25, 2019, young Elizabeth Barraza, 29, opened the garage door at her home in Tomball, Texas, at 7:00 in the morning because she was preparing to have a garage sale.

The night before the crime, a dark-colored Nissan Frontier 4X4 pick-up was prowling around the neighborhood where Elizabeth lived with her husband Sergio Barraza. The same vehicle was also seen on the morning of the crime on the street where the young couple lived.

The disguised killer waited for their chance to strike

Sergio Barraza left the house to go to work and said goodbye to his wife Liz with a kiss. Tomball, the city where the Barrazas lived, is a community north of the Houston metropolitan area in a wooded area with middle-class to upper-middle-class families and no significant crime rates.

Officers from the HCSO Homicide Division believe, based on videos from the neighbors’ security cameras, that the person who was in the Nissan Frontier 4 × 4 pick-up waited until Sergio Barraza left the house to attack Elizabeth Barraza.

A bathrobe, long hair and a gun

At one point, Elizabeth Barraza begins to set up the garage with all the items she was selling when the Nissan Frontier 4X4 pick-up approaches her house. The person driving the vehicle gets out, wearing what appears to be a bathrobe, and has very long hair. It is unknown if they are a man or a woman.

Looking surprised, Barraza sees the person from the pick-up coming toward her. The person pulls out a gun and fires four bullets at her at close range. The shooter doesn’t even have to aim carefully to kill her because of how close they are.

As Elizabeth Barraza falls down, mortally wounded, in her garage, the shooter runs off, gets into the Nissan Frontier 4×4 pick-up and speeds out of the subdivision in Tomball, Texas. The neighbors who heard the shots then come out of their houses to see what was happening.

Several security cameras belonging to neighbors of Elizabeth and Sergio Barraza captured the brutal attack taking place. However, none of the security camera footage is sharp enough to identify the suspected killer or their truck’s license plates.

Detective Wallace Wyatt, from the HCSO Homicide Division, explained at the press conference that Elizabeth Barraza’s crime continues as an open investigation and they have interviewed dozens of people who could shed some light to the case.

Detective Wyatt stated that Homicide Division officers even traveled to Miami, Florida, to interview a «person of interest» in relation to the murder of Elizabeth Barraza. However, so far no clues have allowed them to solve the case.

A carefully premeditated crime

HCSO Homicide Division officers believe the long hair the shooter was wearing was not their natural hair but a wig that was part of a disguise. The bathrobe and boots were part of their disguise so that they could not be identified.

Officers believe that when Elizabeth Barraza looks surprised, it may have been a sign that she knew the person who was about to kill her. Due to all these details, the HCSO agents do not believe that the woman’s crime was random but had been carefully premeditated.

Does anyone know who killed Elizabeth Barraza?

«This $50,000 is fifty thousand reasons for someone to step up and do the right thing by providing the lead, anonymously, that gets this coward off the streets,» said Bob Nuelle, Elizabeth Barraza’s father, when he announced the amount of the reward.

Officers with the HCSO Homicide Division ask that anyone who knows the identity and whereabouts of Elizabeth Barraza’s killer, contact Houston Crime Stoppers at 713.222.8477. All tips will remain anonymous and the organization has someone who speaks Spanish.
