Did you know United States is the second largest producer of beer in the world? So it’s not uncommon for millions of Americans to drink a beer every day, whether in the comfort of their homes or in restaurants and bars. After all, according to statistics, 42% of the adult population in the United States prefers beer over other alcoholic beverages.

And although some people frown upon drinking, science has been able to prove that having a beer a day could be an excellent way to protect you from some illnesses. Here are five benefits of consuming your favorite beer, but remember — always drink in moderation!

5. Beer is beneficial for cardiovascular health

If you want to take care of your heart, don’t hesitate to enjoy one of your favorite beers each day. This is because this alcoholic beverage contains iron, calcium, phosphates and small amounts of fiber, properties that promote the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system and health in general.

According to science, moderate consumption of beer reduces the risk of heart attacks, strokes or heart failure. According to some scientific studies, it is recommended to drink one to two beers daily to obtain maximum benefits without harming your body or becoming dependent on alcohol.

4. Beer strengthens bones

The National Institute of Health suggests that the high silicon content in beer is good for your bones, helping to gradually strengthen them, as long you drink in moderation. Otherwise, it could cause severe damage.

Drinking a beer a day means that your body will get a significant amount of orthosilicic acid, a substance that reduces the risk of osteoporosis, bone weakening and even possible fractures resulting from severe blows.

3. Reduces the risk of kidney stones

In a scientific study endorsed by the American Society of Nephrology, it was found that drinking one beer a day reduces the risk of developing kidney stones by up to 41%. This benefits both men and women equally.

There are many reasons why beer could have this benefit. Some scientists believe that drinking a beer a day helps you urinate more frequently and thus keeps the kidneys in good condition, although it is also possible that the ingredients in beer help release calcium more slowly and thus prevent it from being reabsorbed and becoming kidney stones.

2. Beer improves mental health

Drinking a beer a day not only helps relieve stress, it also contributes to brain health, improving memory and cognitive ability. Scientists who have studied the benefits of beer agree that one or two drinks a day are enough to benefit your body. Drinking more could cause adverse effects such as depression or anxiety.

A study published in the journal Consciousness & Cognition revealed that a blood alcohol level of .075 helped people solve certain problems more easily compared to participants who had not consumed alcoholic beverages.

1. Regulates sugar levels

If you want to prevent type 2 diabetes, or suffer from it, science has good news for you. It is estimated that drinking one or two beers a day could reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes or, alternatively, control blood sugar levels more effectively to avoid complications derived from this disease.

Enjoying a beer a day, especially if it is a low-sugar version, has shown great benefits even in people who had didn’t drunk and decided to take up the habit. A study from the Netherlands found that more than 38,000 people who reported drinking a beer a day were less likely to develop type 2 diabetes over a 4-year period.
