The family immediately called the police as soon as they discovered that they had human remains. Authorities opened a criminal investigation. At first, neither the new owners of the cases nor the police had been able to confirm the contents for sure.

However, after a forensic team carried out the post-mortem evaluation of the bodies, the authorities were able to verify that they were TWO SMALL CHILDREN, who were between 5 and 10 years old at the time of their death according to The Sun.

What did they find in the suitcases?

«I really feel sorry for the families of these victims,» who probably still don’t know about their dead loved ones, said Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua. “This is not an easy investigation. No matter how long or how many years you serve and investigate horrific cases like this, it’s never an easy task.»

Inspector Vaaelua also indicated that the bodies, already in a state of decomposition, could have been hidden for years. In fact, he specified that they may have been inside boxes of that size for a period of three to four years.

«The investigation team is working very hard to hold accountable the person or persons responsible for the deaths of these children,» Vaaelua added. The authorities also confirmed that they have not yet identified the victims, but that some household and personal items that were found with the bodies will be of great help in doing so.

Vaaelua said they were also making progress with DNA. «A lot of us are parents and we have a job to do and we’re doing everything we can to identify the victims,» he said. “What I can say is that we are making very good progress with the DNA investigations.

For now, the New Zealand police believe that the parents of the victims are in the country, but the international criminal agency Interpol is still helping them in their investigation. The authorities reiterated that the family that bought the items from the storage unit is not involved in the crime.

Storage Wars or Quién da más?, as is called in Spanish, is a reality TV show in which a group of buyers attend warehouse auctions. They can only look at storage units from afar, so it’s a gamble. If you win the bid and buy the contents of the unit, you may get treasure or, as in this case, you may make a gruesome discovery. The storage unit company, Safe Store Ltd, is cooperating with police in the investigation. MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS CASE HERE
