Domestic violence is a very serious issue and it happens more often than we realize. MundoNow brings you the case of Rosario Robles and her relationship with a violent trucker.

Forty-eight percent of women have experienced psychological aggression from an intimate partner. Rosario Robles had a relationship two years ago with a man who she thought was the love of her life. However, everything changed when she moved to the United States.

Rosario Robles suffered from domestic violence

Rosario Robles, came to the United States when she was pregnant and was psychologically and physically abused by her partner, who was a trucker.

Rosario did not realize that she was a victim of domestic abuse until her partner took away her phone saying he could no longer afford it. This cut her off from everyone she knew in a country where she didn’t speak the language. Unfortunately, that was the beginning of hell for Rosario.

«I can shoot you and say that the gun fell»

Rosario’s partner sat down on one occasion to clean a long gun that he had in his collection and said: «If you think about leaving one of these days, something could happen to you.» She had no way to escape.

Her family was also affected because Rosario’s partner drove a cargo truck and went to Atlanta multiple times, where the victim’s family is. He told her, «I am going to Atlanta and if you for some reason want to leave, something could happen to your family.»

Rosario was desperate and asked her mother-in-law for help

The situation became even worse for Rosario as she was completely cut off from communication and had an 11-year-old son who saw the violence at home. When her partner went to Atlanta, he took away her phone and television, and threatened to kill her.

Rosario couldn’t take it anymore. Her partner threatened to call ICE  if she didn’t do what he said. She was undocumented so Rosario called her mother and her mother-in-law to ask for help. With tears in her eyes, she explained how her mother-in-law helped her.

A new life

After being helped by her mother-in-law, Rosario’s partner rented an apartment for her. Things became complicated when he stopped paying rent while she was in the hospital having her baby. He then tried to get her to move back in with him.

He was removed from the hospital after trying to have relations with Rosario. After many years and a long custody battle, Rosario is in a much better place.
