- Kevin Ford has worked at Burger King for 27 years.
- Burger King gives him surprising reward.
- He gets a goodie bag filled odd treats.
Kevin Ford, an employee of a Burger King located inside the Las Vegas airport, celebrated 27 years on the job. As a reward, management decided to give him a special ‘gift’, since he never missed a day of work in all those years. However, the recognition was not as special as one would expect, since he only received a goodie bag of trinkets and treats, according to El Universal.
Ford works at a Burger King located in a Las Vegas airport. A Twitter user shared the video where Ford shows his gifts: a movie ticket, candy, two pens and a crystal glass. “The reward that my work gave me for 27 years. I never missed a single day… Thank you,” he says, visibly disappointed.
WAS HE OFFENDED?
Even so, he did not speak ill of the company. “They sent me a bunch of stuff they had laying around. Anything makes me happy, I appreciate anything I receive.” He points out that the place where he works «is a large company… but like most large corporations, they have lost contact with their workers and because of Covid they began to cut programs.»
Seeing the envelope that came in the bag, Kevin got excited thinking that it was a bonus, until he saw that it was just a movie ticket. “We used to get checks for 20 years, and that’s what I really thought the movie ticket was. It wasn’t even two movie tickets, it was one. So I said ‘this is too much’. I can’t believe it, it seemed that they were things that they had lying around that they put together,” he lamented about the gift.
WHAT DID FORD’S DAUGHTER DO?
The video went viral and, in the face of the outrage that was unleashed, Burger King issued a statement. “The Burger King brand and its many franchisees nationwide are committed to recognizing and celebrating the achievements of the thousands of people serving across a wide range of roles — all dedicated to providing our Guests a world-class experience»
Seryna Ford, Kevin’s daughter, created a GoFundMe campaign, explaining her father’s story to see if people would join in giving him a hand. “The man in the video is my father. He has worked 27 years in his job and yes, he has never been absent.” She explained that Kevin started working there as a «single father, getting custody of my sister and me, 27 years ago.» To see the video click here.
PEOPLE REWARD KEVIN FORD
Then Ford remarried and the family grew. “He kept working there for his health insurance. That meant that all four of his daughters had health coverage through high school and college.” In itself it is a great story of an exemplary employee and father.
She continued, «He keeps working there because, although he looks young, he is approaching retirement age and leaving would cost him his retirement.» Seryna said that «in no way are we asking for money or he is expecting money, but if someone feels like blessing him, he would love to visit his grandchildren.» As of Monday, the campaign had raised $159,317.
