A woman identified as Brenda Villela was arrested for hiding in a vehicle and allegedly stabbing her mother while she was driving in Arizona, law enforcement officials said Friday, March 18.
Phoenix Police Department officials said 27-year-old Brenda Villela was arrested in connection with a stabbing incident that left her mother seriously injured, Fox 10 reported on Friday. The capture occurred a day after authorities asked for the public’s help in finding her.
Brenda Villela hid in the car to commit a chilling crime
The stabbing that allegedly involved Brenda Villela, according to authorities, occurred around 5:20 a.m. local time on Wednesday, March 16 in an area north of 7th Avenue and Broadway Road in Phoenix, the report said.
«Mrs. Brenda Villela stabbed her mother several times while the victim was driving. The suspect’s actions caused the vehicle to crash. After the vehicle crashed, the suspect fled on foot,» said the statement released by Phoenix Police on March 17.
Brenda Villela’s supposed anger at her mother
According to the authorities, the mother of Brenda Villela was taken to the hospital and was initially in critical condition. She is currently in stable condition, and the victim’s relatives said they hope she will recover. They also believe that the suspect herself was angry with her mother over a child custody issue.
In a video recorded by a surveillance camera, the suspect was seen in the entrance of the family’s house at around 3:00 a.m. on March 17. In the recording, Brenda Villela was seen holding a large knife, the Fox 10 report said.
Brenda Villela’s brother talked about her
According to the victim’s relatives, the suspect hid in the back seat of her mother’s car and then stabbed her while she was driving to work. Her mother ended up crashing her car, but she managed to call her relatives who rushed to the scene.
«They saw their car crash into a wall and a tree. There was a tow truck driver there who saw it and he said that Brenda jumped out and ran. Brenda stabbed (the victim) six times,» said the suspect’s brother, Samuel Santiago, who described her as mentally unstable, according to the Fox 10 report.
Some friends gave Brenda Villela up
«CPS [Child Protective Services] has had to come in and give custody [of her child] to my mom for the time being until Brenda gets better,» Samuel Santiago added. According to the reports cited, Brenda Villela was located on the morning of March 18 at a gas station in southern Phoenix.
«She was talking to two of her friends and they turned her in,» said the suspect’s brother. She is now charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of robbery, criminal endangerment, and criminal damage.
