On Tuesday, at approximately 7 p.m. local time, the Chicago Police Department responded to emergency calls. Arriving at the Lake View Towers apartments, they found a 3-year-old boy bloodied and badly injured, the police spokesman said.

According to the authorities, the child was in an apartment located on the 18th floor of the north tower of the Lake View Towers complex when he fell through a screen window and «landed in a parking garage below,» reported  Newsweek. Local media reported that he had fallen on the roof of the third floor of a parking garage.

Police said the boy fell on to the parking garage between the complex’s twin towers. Following the fall, emergency services transported the 3-year-old boy, who was in critical condition, to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hours later, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified the minor as Binion Chaise and confirmed that he died from multiple blunt force injuries due to a fall from a height, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Residents of the building explained to the media that the windows of the apartments open towards the interior of the apartment like a V and that, although it has a screen, a small child could well fit into the gap. Firefighters and police did not offer further details on how this tragedy could have occurred.

“We saw them when they brought the little kid down on the stretcher. They was giving him chest compressions, and you could see where his face was all bloody,”resident Tracy Redmond commented to ABC7Chicago.

Tragedy struck a Chicago family unexpectedly. “The mother was on the floor, yeah, when they took him with the stretcher,” Etenesh Gebeyehu, whose daughter lives in the building, told WLS. “She was on the floor crying, you know. Crying, her forehead on the floor.”

Marisol Chaica, a resident of the building, added that “It is terrible to see this tragedy for that family. So devastating.» For now, the Chicago police have opened an investigation to determine exactly what happened. SEE VIDEO HERE
