A painful ending that no one wanted to hear. The authorities confirmed the discovery of the body of 17-year-old Yahir Elías Rodríguez, who had disappeared while fishing with his family on a Texas beach, according to Click2Houston.

The body of the teen was found in the water by the crew of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from the Houston Coast Guard Air Station. He was located in the middle of the San Luis Pass hours after his disappearance was reported on Saturday night, Click2Houston reported on Sunday, May 1.

A Texas EquuSearch ship crew recovered the body and brought it to shore. “San Luis Pass is an incredibly hazardous area for wade fishing and swimming due to strong tidal currents and rapidly changing water depth, especially at night,” said Coast Guard Capt. Keith Donohue.

The captain, who is the search and rescue mission coordinator for the Houston-Galveston Sector, added, “It is heartbreaking that a fishing trip with friends and family has ended this way. We offer the family of this young man our deepest condolences for the unimaginable loss.”

According to Click2Houston, Galveston police received the initial report of a missing person around 8:37 p.m. local time on Saturday after Yahir Rodriguez allegedly entered the water about 100 yards north of the bridge.

Yahir Rodríguez’s brothers were with him fishing before he disappeared. The Galveston and Jamaica Beach Fire Departments, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office and the Galveston Police Department, along with the Coast Guard, were among those involved in the search for the boy.
