Good news for families! The government of the president Joe Biden will give $ 375 a month to low-income children this summer to guarantee a good diet during the school holidays.

The USDA indicated in a statement that the $ 375 per month includes a payment of $ 6.82 per child for each day of the week, which will be given to the families of the children who are eligible for assistance.

With this, the Biden administration expands the Pandemic Benefits Electronic Transfer (P-EBT) program that covers the feeding of school-age children during the school season and will now do so in the summer months as well.

This is a temporary benefit. Eligible children are those who typically receive free or reduced-price meals during the academic year. Also those under the age of six and live in a household that receives benefits from the food stamp program (“food stamps”) or SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).

This is the way in which the Biden government will assure low-income children a good diet that could be affected by the time that the schools, where they normally receive their breakfasts and lunches, are closed.

The aid will come through an EBT card (Electronic Benefit Transfer) that the beneficiaries will receive at their homes and later can use the money to buy food for the children.

The pandemic has affected the finances of many families. According to the government, about 29 million adults and 12 million children are not food secure during difficult times of the pandemic. The USDA recalled that more than 1 in 5 African American and Latino adults live in households with little stability for food consumption.

This will be the «largest child nutrition aid in summer season in the history» of the United States, as reported in a press conference Jen Psaki, a spokeswoman for the White House.

What do I have to do to claim the aid? Psaki explained that parents of eligible children do not have to «take any action» as they will receive the cards in the mail at home from state agencies.

Despite the great impact that the aid will have at the national level, Psaki recalled that this type of feeding programs for children at the moment only covers 20% of the families that are cared for during the school year.

This aid is to complement the third check of $ 1,400 dollars, unemployment benefits, the tax credit of up to $ 3,600 for minors, among other aid that the federal government has granted. Biden government will give $ 375 a month to low-income children this summer.
