A man identified as Adrián Oswaldo Sura Reyes reportedly admitted that he intentionally plowed his car into a crowd at a benefit, killing one person and injuring more than a dozen others. He then went home and killed his mother with a hammer, according to the New York Post.

Adrián Reyes, 24, who was angry about an argument he had with his mother, rammed his car into a crowd at a fundraiser for fire victims in a Pennsylvania town, killing 50-year-old Rebecca L. Reese, 50 and wounding 17 others. He then returned home, ran over his mother and beat her to death with a hammer, state police said, according to the AP.

Adrián Reyes, a resident of Nescopeck, Pennsylvania was charged early Sunday morning with two counts of intentional homicide, according to the AP, which added that the police alleged in a criminal complaint that he confessed that he had argued with his mother on Saturday night and that, while driving through nearby Berwick, he felt «extremely frustrated» and «tired of fighting with his mother, tired of fighting with his mother, including about money, and wanted to be done with it.»

Trooper Anthony Petroski III told reporters Saturday night that Adrian Reyes was not a suspect in the earlier arson, the cause of which remains under investigation. «This is an absolute tragedy in a community where there has already been a tragedy,» he said.

In the criminal complaint, police said Adrián Reyes revealed to investigators that he saw his mother on the street on her way home and ran her over with his car, then hit her with a hammer several times. The arrestee was denied bail and remained in the Columbia County jail awaiting a preliminary hearing on August 29.

Several news outlets reported that Adrián Reyes said “Sorry” in response to questions from journalists as he left the Shickshinny Township police station. It is unknown if he has an attorney. The bar indicated that what happened is an «absolute tragedy» and stated on its Facebook page that they will be closed until further notice and want their privacy to be respected «while we mourn and try to process the events that occurred.»
