Senior citizens to receive an EXTRA $200 check

• Some seniors in New York State will receive some financial relief.

EXCELLENT NEWS: MORE MONEY ON THE WAY. An EXTRA $200 check for seniors was approved as a way to help offset the skyrocketing costs of goods and services due to rising inflation in the US.

Some senior citizens in New York state will be able to enjoy a new $200 economic stimulus check, after the Onondaga County Legislature finally gave the go-ahead this week for them to be granted this single payment.

Democratic Rep. Peggy Chase, chairwoman of the Health and Human Services Committee, said they had been hearing the many stories about the struggles seniors have had to go through to pay their monthly bills.

«When we’re looking at the cost of everything else going up, there’s not a lot of flexibility even if they give them a little bump in Social Security,» Chase said of the tight economic situation hundreds of older adults have been experiencing since the pandemic hit.

These lump-sum payments, unanimously approved by local legislators, will be distributed to seniors who currently receive New York State’s Enhanced STAR waiver for the 2022-2023 school year, according to WRVO.

Local authorities noted that approximately 27,500 households in Onondaga County will enjoy the EXTRA $200 dollar checks. They plan to allocate $5.5 million dollars of county funds for the initiative.

Now that the aid has been approved for senior citizens, many are disappointed because there are still families in Onandaga who are struggling to make ends meet. That’s why Democratic Rep. Bill Kinne said he hopes the program can be expanded to include low-income families as well.

“Everybody has suffered financially through this pandemic in one way or the other, and it would be nice to give it to everybody,” Chase said, adding that they still haven’t forgotten the many others who need help. It’s not that it’s not possible, but logistically, we haven’t figured that out,» he added.

In this case, the checks will be sent to senior citizens in Onondaga County, New York. However, they have not ruled out the possibility of expanding the program to include more people. For now, other states are looking for ways to help their residents with the high cost of living.
