A world overwhelmed by disasters could be a reality in the coming years as more catastrophes collide in an interconnected world, says a United Nations report published in April 2022. Climate change has a huge impact on the number of disasters, the report’s authors said, according to the AP.

If current trends continue, the world will go from around 400 disasters per year in 2015 to an avalanche of around 560 catastrophes per year by 2030, according to the scientific report from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. By comparison, between 1970 and 2000, the world suffered only 90 to 100 medium- to large-scale disasters a year, according to the report. Filed Under: US Hurricane Season.
